Washing & Drying – Do’s and Don’ts
To keep your 3D puff designs looking their best, follow these care guidelines:
| ✅ Do’s |
❌ Don’ts |
| Wait 24 hours before washing after application. | Do not use high heat in the dryer—this may cause flattening or distortion. |
| Wash inside out to protect the raised texture. | Do not bleach or use strong detergents. |
| Use cold or warm water on a gentle cycle. | Do not iron directly over the design. |
| Line dry or tumble dry on low heat to maintain the puff effect. | Do not dry clean, as chemicals can damage the vinyl. |
| Store garments folded rather than tightly rolled to avoid unnecessary pressure on the design. |
Avoid washing with heavy or abrasive items (e.g., jeans, zippers) that could rub against the raised areas.
Additional Tips & Tricks for Perfect 3D Puff Results
Achieve flawless, professional-quality puff designs every time with these expert application tips:
Design & Cutting Tips
Avoid extremely thin lines – Puff vinyl expands outward, so very fine details may lose sharpness after pressing.
Use bold shapes & solid areas where the puff effect can fully develop and show maximum height.
Offset outlines very slightly (0.2–0.5 mm) to accommodate the material’s expansion and maintain crisp edges.
Test small cuts first to dial in your machine’s blade depth and pressure before cutting complex designs.
Heat Press Tips
Use a flat, even pressing surface – Uneven pressure can cause inconsistent puff heights.
Avoid using Teflon sheets or covers unless necessary; they can reduce the puff effect by insulating heat.
Pre-press the garment for 2–3 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles for a smoother finish.
Don’t over-press – Too much heat or time can cause discoloration or flatten the foam texture.
If using a pressing pillow, be cautious: pillows can diffuse pressure and may reduce puff unless absolutely needed.
Layering & Design Construction
Do not layer puff vinyl ON TOP of other puff vinyl – the expansion will be uneven.
Do not layer anything on top of puff vinyl – use puff only for the topmost layer.
For multi-colour designs, combine puff with flat PU vinyl, keeping puff as the final layer to create dynamic contrast.
After-Press Finishing
Let the vinyl cool slightly before peeling, especially on thicker fabrics, to help maintain crisp edges.
Avoid stretching the garment while warm, which can distort the raised effect.
For maximum texture, allow the design to fully settle and cool before handling.
General Use & Longevity Tips
Store vinyl flat and away from heat, as high temperatures can cause premature expansion.
Test different heat press calibrations (some presses run hotter or cooler than their display).
